The Communion of Saints: Celebrating All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day
The Communion of Saints, painted in the late 19th century by Spanish artist Bartolomé Pérez de la Dehesa, draws us into the splendour of heaven, a vision of the Blessed Trinity surrounded by the Virgin Mary, angels, apostles, and saints from every age. In the beauty of this sacred art, faith becomes visible: heaven and earth are no longer distant, but united in praise.
As we mark the solemnity of All Saints and All Souls Day this weekend, we give thanks for all who now share in the fullness of God’s life, the saints known and unknown. We also hold in our hearts those who have gone before us, our loved ones and all souls in purgatory. We remember them in prayer and trust in God’s infinite mercy and redemption.
Together, these feasts remind us that the Church is one family in heaven and on earth, joined in Christ. We live, pray, and hope within this communion of saints, knowing that one day, by God’s mercy, we too will share in the light of His presence.
