ENCOUNTERING BEAUTY, SACRED MUSIC CONCERT
‘Celebrating the Nativity of St John the Baptist’
WHEN: Friday 26 June 2026 · 7pm - 8pm
LOCATION: St Peter’s Catholic Church, 581 Toorak Road, Toorak
A profound musical experience, performed by leading Melbourne vocalists and instrumentalists. Held within the beautiful setting of St Peter’s Catholic Church, Toorak, these evenings invite contemplation and stillness.
To celebrate the anniversary of the birth of John the Baptist we will present J.S. Bach’s cantatas "Ihr Menschen, rühmet Gottes Liebe" ("You people, glorify God's love") (BWV 167) and “Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam" ("Christ our Lord Came to the Jordan") (BWV 7) and a bonus offering of the opening movement from BWV 30 "Freue dich, erlöste Schar" ("Rejoice, Redeemed Flock").
Featuring Larissa Cairns, Talia Garrett-Benson, Ben Glover and Kristian Gregory as soloists beautifully supported by string quartet and flute.
This concert forms part of our 2026 concert series, which draws from the Church’s rich musical tradition. Across the series, audiences encounter original compositions and arrangements by Director of Music, Conrad Helfrich, alongside choral works, Gregorian chant, ancient polyphony, organ repertoire, and timeless classical pieces, often enriched by strings, harp, and chamber orchestra.
Light refreshments provided.
🎟 Entry: Admission by donation — the evening’s music is offered through our Encountering Beauty series, with donations on entry supporting our work to make beauty and prayer accessible to all through our sacred music programme.
