Light from Darkness

A NIGHT OF SACRED MUSIC, SCRIPTURE AND PRAYER

Join us in the beautiful setting of St Peter’s Catholic Church for an evening of sacred music, scripture, prayer and reflection. Bringing together Melbourne’s finest soloists with an ensemble choir, organ music and timeless works, this event marks the beginning of an ongoing concert series, offering opportunities to take part in shared prayer, scripture and song.

'Be taken on a journey as dusk descends into evening and the darkness of night approaches dawn: foreboding, fear and despair turn to hope.'

Alongside other sacred works by great composers across the centuries, the programme will feature:

• J.S. Bach’s moving cantata Bide With Us, for Soon It Will Be Evening, with solos sung by Ben Glover, Jack Jordan and Kristian Gregory

• Ralph Vaughan Williams’ much-loved The Lark Ascending in a new choral arrangement by Conrad Helfrich

• Organ works by Sigfrid Karg-Elert

• The beloved hymn Abide With Me, together with new settings of two responsorial psalms inviting audience participation

• Readings, prayer and time for reflection
